Makeup for nose or lip piercings

A fresh nose or lip piercing needs time and rest to heal. Makeup can interfere with wound healing if it comes into direct contact with the piercing channel. However, with a little care, it is possible to wear makeup.

Why caution is important

Makeup products contain:

• Pigments
• Fats and oils
• Preservatives
• Fragrances

If these enter the fresh incision channel, irritation, inflammation, or delayed healing may occur.

Nose piercing (e.g., nostril)

• Do not apply foundation directly on or near the piercing site.
• Use powder carefully and do not rub in any product residue.
• Do not move jewelry when removing makeup.
• Clean the piercing after heavy contact with makeup.

Liquid products in particular can easily get into the wound.

Lip piercing (e.g., medusa)

• During the initial healing phase, avoid using lipstick and gloss if possible.
• Do not use heavily covering or long-lasting products.
• Keep the inside clean (e.g., rinse after eating).
• Stop use immediately if irritation occurs.

Lip products come into direct contact with the injection site and significantly increase the risk of irritation.

General recommendations

• Apply makeup carefully around the piercing
• Use clean brushes or applicators
• Do not share cosmetic products
• Clean the piercing regularly with suitable care products
